STEPS FOR RECYCLING AT A COLLECTION CENTER

1. See our map and list by city for over 50 used oil and filter drop-off locations in San Mateo County and choose the one most convenient for you.
2. Call the drop-off location prior to bringing your used oil and filter to verify hours and limitations.
3. Collect used oil in a clean, non-breakable plastic container that has a screw-on cap.
4. Place used oil filter into a plastic bag and seal tightly.
5. Deliver used motor oil and filters to the collection center. Always give used motor oil and filters to a staff member.
6. Never abandon used oil or filters outside of the business when the shop is closed. This is illegal.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CONTAMINATED OIL

• Used motor oil cannot be mixed with any other substance. Oil mixed with water, paint, solvents, rags, and antifreeze is contaminated.
• Contaminated oil must be taken to the San Mateo County Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Drop-off is free.

All locations accept uncontaminated used motor oil and filters unless otherwise noted. Don’t forget to bring your used filter for recycling.
